Advanced Structures Corporation was an original supplier of GRP/Nomex Honeycomb Bulkhead Panels to Robert E. Derektor and Tacoma Boatbuilding for 270 Foot Medium Endurance Cutters (WMEC).

We are the only original bulkhead manufacturer that is still actively involved with supplying replacement bulkhead panels of this type

The Coast Guard required bulkhead joiner panels with a maximum of moisture resistance that was highly fire retardant and ultra lightweight. Their requirement included an integrally bonded High Pressure Plastic Laminate that was fused to the fiberglass/resin (prepreg) faces using the resin in the prepreg.

This panel construction, which is similar to those used in passenger aircraft, utilized a flame retardant honeycomb made with Nomex, a product of DuPont. The result was an ultra lightweight bulkhead joiner panel light and strong enough to meet requirements of the U.S. Coast Guard.

This same panel construction was used about US Navy Mine Counter Measure Ships and Mine  Sweepers. Besides having the above mentioned attributes, they also demonstrated very low magnetic signatures. With over twenty years in service, replacement panels can be supplied, often with stock materials, to extend the life of joinery another twenty-plus years.
