Why Lightweight Coast Guard Panels Matter
Weight reduction plays a critical role in modern vessel construction and refurbishment. Lightweight Coast Guard panels help improve vessel efficiency by reducing overall ship weight without sacrificing structural integrity or durability. Lighter panels can contribute to increased fuel efficiency, improved payload capacity, and easier installation during both new construction and retrofit projects.
Engineered honeycomb panel construction also provides exceptional stiffness while minimizing weight, making these panels an ideal solution for military and government marine applications where performance and reliability are essential.
Coast Guard vs Navy Panel Differences
Materials for Coast Guard Panels
The material used in our panels allows for the most efficient use possible. The standard core is made of aluminum honeycomb. There are various finishes that are used: USCG approved Arvex™ decorative laminates, approval No. 164.112/87/0 mill finish anodized per MIL-A-8625, chemfilm (alodine) per MIL-C-5541 baked enamel high-pressure plastic laminates. The adhesive we use is film form epoxy per SAE-AMS-A-25463, type 1, class 1. And finally, the faces are 045" thick 6061-T6 aluminum or 24-gallon type 304 stainless steel #4 finish.
The standard thickness of the panel in 5/8", but other thicknesses are available, including:
We have the ability to customize many of the Coast Guard panels we supply. This is due to our high-tech manufacturing capabilities. Customization is crucial as it offers the user the ability to create a product that is more aligned with their sensibilities. We will follow the specifications that you provide us. So that you will receive a product that works right for you!
Applications for Coast Guard Panels
Coast Guard panels are used throughout a wide range of shipboard environments, including:
- Interior bulkhead systems
- Equipment rooms
- Mechanical spaces
- Living quarters
- Passageways
- Control rooms
- Utility compartments
- Maintenance areas
Panels can be manufactured to meet the unique layout and dimensional requirements of each vessel, allowing for efficient installation and long-term performance.
6 Benefits of Honeycomb Marine Panels
Honeycomb panel construction offers several advantages over traditional solid materials, making it one of the preferred solutions for marine joiner systems.
- Lightweight Construction: Honeycomb cores provide exceptional strength while dramatically reducing weight compared to conventional steel or solid-core panels.
- Excellent Structural Performance: The sandwich panel design delivers impressive rigidity and dimensional stability, helping panels maintain their performance in demanding marine environments.
- Corrosion Resistance: Marine-grade aluminum and stainless steel face sheets are designed to withstand harsh operating conditions while requiring minimal maintenance.
- Custom Manufacturing: Every Coast Guard project has unique requirements. Panels can be manufactured in custom dimensions, thicknesses, finishes, and configurations to integrate seamlessly into new construction or vessel modernization programs.
- Simplified Installation: Pre-manufactured panels reduce field fabrication, helping contractors streamline installation while maintaining consistent quality throughout the project.
- Manufactured for Government and Marine Applications: Advanced Structures Corporation has decades of experience manufacturing lightweight marine joiner products for U.S. military and government vessels. Our Coast Guard panels are designed to meet demanding operational requirements while providing the strength, durability, and weight savings expected in today's marine environments.
From individual replacement panels to complete shipboard panel systems, our manufacturing capabilities allow us to support projects of varying sizes with dependable quality and responsive customer service.
